I am looking for a good 6" and 12" steel ruler... What is a good one to buy? For the 6" I would like markings down to 1/16"

I have a Starrett 6" metal ruler that I like a lot. Main reason is it's thick enough to not bend. It's 0.043" (1.1mm) thick. Some others I've held are thinner and feel wimpy to me. Supposedly Starrett is very accurate as well. But you'll pay a little more for them. Sometimes you can find a sale or deal for a set of them.
 
I also have Starrett 6” and 12” rulers. Yep, they are pricey but one of the best. I think both Rockler and Woodcraft supply them.

How durable/solid do you want it to be? Woodpeckers has thick, precise rulers. On the other hand, Woodsmith has much thinner, yet precise rulers. I have both, and tend to use the thinner ones more. Chuck
 
Lee valley, Rockler, Woodcraft, etc... I buy them in bunches as they get lost so easily. Pretty much all of them have 1/16" marks and most have smaller gradations in the first inch.

Thanks for the info... I was looking at Benchmark, sold by Taylor toolwoorks, anyone tried these?
 
I had a Miller Falls 12" that also worked in a combination square. It had 4 sets of measurements, top and bottom edge on both sides. Had in 1/8ths on one edge and 1/16ths on the other. Forget if both sides are the same. Now I'll have to climb over to the tool box and see.

Most likely has 32nd's and 64th's on the other side--kind of the standard in USA combination squares. That set of markings is known as "4R", i've always assumed that to mean 4 scales-regular, but that's just a guess.
 
Go to a swap meet and you'll probably find what you want for only a buck or two, maybe 3. I've got several Westcott 12", 15", 18 and 24"office rulers that are well made but flexible. My 6" ruler doesn't have a name on it but were made for machinists as the increments are too fine for a woodworker. It has "Made in USA Tempered 16R" and one side is 100ths and 50ths. The other side is 32nds and 64ths. As a Cabinet Maker I tried to always work within a 1/16". ............ Jerry (in Tucson)
