You can either select a persons profile and then select “start conversation” or click on the envelope in the top right and select “start new conversation” You can always use the site help located at the bottom.

Said "envelope", is called "Inbox" in the default WBv2 template.
Scroll all the way to the bottom and look in the left hand corner, if you are now confused and wanting to determine which version you are looking at folks. When you park your cursor on it, it will say "Style Chooser". And, if you click on the version there, you'll get a pop up offering the options.

technically rocky, the envelope, is on the default version. WBv2 is based on the default, but the bar with the envelope disappears when you scroll down any page except the rules page. that one is always the default version.

and all this time I thought I was on v2 
Say by golly, you're right! The "Use Default", above the WBv2, takes you to the other template. I always thought it was a title up there. OK... you were on the Default Lou! But there is no envelope on WBv2, regardless of where the bar is, it says "Inbox" instead.
Which one is better?
Not a lot of difference honestly. One the menu bar at the top of the page scrolls up, the other it stays put. I honestly like it staying put, but have an extra line of toolbar set up on most of my browsers, so I scroll it up and get it out of my way.

No permanent bar on top to block my view of what I'm typing when im on the phone...
