Hello folks...when I visited Lee Valley I saw there the Veritas Side Rabbet Plane...it was little pricey for my desire and use.Now I have a future project and I need one.

Checking here in Brazil I found one model from Record and paid 1/3 of price in comparsion to Veritas model. The model is Record #2506 S (S means with fence).

The knob at Record #2506 is not so nice as the knob at Sargent #81 model.
My idea was improve the shape and comfort at my plane.
The main idea is try to copy the shape from Lee Valley model. The wood is Gonçalo Alves.
I have the limitation of tools at home to do this job.

Soon more pictures of the handle and the way I did the conections.
Thanks for attention

Are you making this handle to swivel left and right? Looks like the veritas model handle swivels out of the way depending which direction you are cutting
My intention is change position as Veritas model.I have some limitations but tonight I'll post more pictures.

Because the body of plane (I can't change it) I"ll use the angle below to conect the base and handle to permit it to swivel in both directions.
I made new holes and some cuts to permit the blades be free.I am working now but tonight the new pictures can solve the questions by itself.

The original shape

How the veritas handle is.

The body is already made for this handle...mine will be an adaptation

That is what I thought the veritas would look like based on the picture you first posted. I believe I understand where you are headed. I will wait and see if I am right. I have yet to see you stop before the project worked to your desired project so I have confidence this is headed to a fine finish.

Hello folks ...I just put all parts together...in my opinion works pretty nice an it is very comfortable in comparsion to original knob .
I never touch a Sargent plane and I don't remember about pick the Veritas at my hands to feel it.At LV all tools has one avaible to you feel at your hands.Vey nice.
I visited this store in Ottawa (wife and daughter waiting at Ikea ...very close).
Two hours passed so fast there.

The boby (project) create some limitations and I don't want to "touch" the original metal in any place.
Maybe the Veritas can be more refinated in project and maretials ...easy to pivoting the handle but it is not so hard as well...this wooden handle feels so good at hands. And add a charm too.

See the new pictures
