The Texas Quote of the Day is actually several quotes by ZZ Top's Dusty Hill, who passed away yesterday at the age of 72: "I always had kind of a baby face and when I started playing people didn't take me seriously." "No, I never envisioned the band lasting this long. But then again, I can't envision next week, even though I have a schedule." "I remember when our first album came out. After one of our gigs, we went across the border to Mexica and the band in the bar was doing covers of our songs. I don't think they understood a word they were singing but they did the songs perfectly. "I'm living proof that Hepatitis C can be contained by ZZ Top cannot." "I'm a sex symbol. Is that wild? It blows me away. I mean, I've always known it, I just figured nobody else did." "I was 19 or 20 the last time I shaved." "You know how a dog and its owner start to look alike after a while? Well that's me and Billy [Gibbons]." "Being a musician in Texas had its own set of risks." "All we did was take what we were and bring it forward. We obviously had a great amount of pride in being from Texas." ----- Dusty Hill, longtime bassist for ZZ Top

A definite lost to the music industry- they brought their own style and iconic look with the twin beard/hat, the ridiculous tone and easily recognizable sound! Remember early 80’s when they would do a simple dance swagger and the fur covered instruments! Really hot Texas tone! When I think of 80’s rock/blues that had their own thing going on and big ass/kick ass tone- it’s ZZ Top and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan!

I saw them in LA Grange about 4 years ago, was a hell of a show.

Dude. Sad day it is. I love zz top. I saw em on the afterburner tour. And again in 2007 at the casino. Great show.

I watched a recent special on em a month or 2 ago. Good stuff.

Lol. I remember in the 80s i used to get lines shaved into my hair. I had the zz on each side. I gotta find a pic....

I've seen them in concert 4 times Also watched them play at Village Pizza in Houston before there were ZZ Top. Dusty lived down in the Kemah area. I know where. One day many, many moons ago my best friend and I were wade fishing in that area and we noticed another wade fisherman catching quite a few. We eased over to him to see what he was using and you know what's coming next! It was Dusty Hill. Sucker wouldn't tell us what he was using for bait LOL God Speed Dusty!
