LOL, my computer class in 74 UT the punch cards etc. the computer was the size of a two car garage now that same computer fits in an Iphone . Major Major change(advancements) .

Or the magazine advert that I kept where you could buy a 100 megabyte hard drive for only $10,000 - and that was a breakthrough price at the time.

For comparison, even you had an old iPhone 3 (I think) with 4 gigabytes - that's over 4,000 times more space than that old hard drive.

You know the phrase "hard drive crash"? In the early days there was the ultimate example of that. Folks came in to the computer room in the morning and the disk drive cabinet had a pile of aluminum shavings in the bottom. Yes, the drive head crashed. Hard.

You guys are going to hate Kevin in a bit for opening this subject up.

I promise if you stop reminding me of things I'll stop telling you about them :)

In 1967 +- dad bought a pocket calculator- 1 1/2 x 6 x 8 had to put it together- $75 and it could add subtract divide and multiply. State of the art- I wish he had lived to see them giving away the solar powered credit card ones..........

I'll also note that, for sentimental reasons, I still have an acoustic modem that I used to telecommute back in 1974. You know, the kind that had rubber cups that you put the headset from the phone in. The kind of phone that has a cord.

When I first joined the IT department of the newspaper where I work, the sports reporters would write their stories on a Radio Shack TRS-80 and file them by modem. One of the great boxing reporters, George Kimball, called in from Caesar's Palace after a fight to tell us that "the beer glass holder is broken."
