I mill this 2 years ago, the logs were spalted on the ends but not in the center. I had no use for them so I piled them on stickers. It was a wet humid summer and my cover kept blowing off, in the fall I repiled them and covered them and have not looked at them since. Yesterday I was moving lumber around trying to get to some cedar, and decided to grab one of the maple boards. I didn't hold much hope, it was pretty black on the surface. I'm hoping that the rest of the pile is like this one, it's very solid with no soft spots and has very little warpage. IMG_20250316_135722350.jpg

Looks like you have a couple holes there from the two legged maple borer!

When it works, it works awesome! I got a pile like that about 4 or 5 years ago and did the same thing with similar results. It started as a pile at the local sawmill that had minor rotting started so he couldn't sell to his normal crowd. 800 bd ft at 25¢ a board foot was acceptable to me...
