My 10 year old grandson scored his first deer. Yesterday was opening day of youth weekend and he got lucky. This spring I started taking him to the field and stream club range every chance I got. He progressed from not knowing how to shoulder a rifle to being reliablely accurate off the bench @ 100 yds ;after about a brick of .22 fired in a scoped single shot. He was pretty worried about recoil but after a little coaxing I convinced him to try my .556 AR which has almost no recoil. From there he progressed to his youth model ruger.350 legend. He will if offered the chance shoot his dad's Remington 700 30-06. He scored the 99 pound spike from a ground blind @ 125 yards with a perfect double lung shot.

Good on you Grandpa!

And congratulations to the young man! The first hunt/deer is a special one that he will always remember.

That will help his hunting skills more than years of shooting. Getting a buck on your first shot.
Maybe, but it was so easy he thinks that's how it works 😂 sit in a comfiy chair in a blind for a few hours, shoot once and that's it. 🤣. It may come as a shock when he hunts and entire season and everything that can go wrong happens. Been there done that 🤣. It still happens to me I got two easy deer last year, not seeing them this year. I had one archery chance but by the time I had a good shot shooting hours were over.

Them damned bows being so loud.... If you had a good shot... or were you thinking if it ran and tracking complications.

It was just plain too dark to be sure of good shot placement. It was just one of those evenings when dark comes early.
