I saw this video a few weeks back and I have decided to skip some sections of pecan that may have been a bowl. They will be boxes or other stuff now.

Wow, you don't realize how bad he was hit until you see the second camera angle. Good reminder of shop safety and definitely shows the value of wearing a face shield.

What does he mean, "no salvaging this one"? I would flood the crack with black epoxy and make something nice from it! Good lesson and reminder though. I had a heavy mesquite bowl come off because of a concealed crack near the base. Smacked me square in the face. Rang my bell bigtime, My whole face was numb and I thought I had lost some teeth, but it turned out I just had some fat lips for a while. I was not wearing a faceshield and my face was close to the work cause I was doing some very fine finishing touch-up with a scraper, caught a crack and Bam! It was a good lesson for me and I got off cheaply...

Probably not an ideal piece to start with, but hat's off to the guy for having the brass ones to show everybody his screw up… His willingness to show his goof might save someone else.

If you turn long enough you will have an accident, I myself have had many never the same one twice but many. I just stated wearing my face shield when i went from the Delta midi to the Nova lathe.
