First question, can Tung oil be applied over BLO ? I have appled BLO to a bowl and I like it but it is very flat and would like to shine it up some so any suggestions are appreciated.

Second question, what is your favorite home brew for finishing your projects?

After the BLO has cured, in about a week, any finish, including tung oil can be applied.

My fav OEM brew? I'll thin poly sometimes.

Thanks Brink!

Shellac is a great way to bring up the shine, and you can top coat it with anything. I like antique oil(Minwax) for the luster it provides.

Tung oil is a pretty flat finish also unless you use about a gazillion coats! My favorite home brew is equal parts of pure tung oil, blo, and oil based poly, thinned with a little mineral spirits for wiping. This finish takes time to apply but it is worth it, I always start with one coat of pure tung oil then apply the home brew. I also like this one, start with one coat of pure tung oil, wipe once everyday with a clean rag until it no longer pics up oil. the tung oil really brings out the figure and color in wood, makes it pop. next apply a couple coats of dewaxed shellac as a sealer and sand with 320 between coats, this can be done in a couple of hours as shellac is alcohol based and dries quickly. Then apply a couple coats of thinned for wiping oil poly for durability, sand with 320 then wax and buff.
