I’ve followed this guy for quite some time now and have gotten some great info and some good dad jokes. His hand took collection is amazing. I checked out the wood finder part and found mills and stores relatively close to me I didn’t even know were here and have lived here for 38 years haha. Better late than never. I haven’t used the tool finder part but thought this was too good of info not to pass along to you guys.

Well, crap. I mean, just crap. Here I thought you had found some good information on how to locate the hand tools that I KNOW are somewhere in my garage, but which keep disappearing from time to time and then reappearing after I no longer need them.

In Tennessee, he is severely lacking on the smaller sawmills. They pop up and go away quickly, but meanwhile they usually have decent prices. His nearest to me is about an hour and a half. I can get lumber at probably 5 or 6 small mills in my county and I have been told there are at least that many more on the east side of the county that I have never visited. The Appalachian region is wood rich. We may have trouble finding furniture grade kilned lumber but we are never far from a rough cut sawmill or( as in my case ) 10...
This map is however, excellent for those in a new place to get a starting point. The woodmizer website is also a valuable resource for green lumber mill locations

What you need is a 4 yr old grandson. He will find stuff you didn’t know you had and hide stuff you’ll need tomorrow...

My current list of AWOL tools:
36" metal ruler
6" file, brand new
Scratch awl, used one time

How can I lose a 36" metal ruler?

Size is not the issue. The issue is the object's ability to teleport into another dimension until you stop looking for it and then reappear in an obvious place that you could swear you have already checked.

If you are anything like me you will find it weeks or months down the road when you don’t need it

I’m still looking for things where I put them two shops ago… I can remember a 3/8” wrench hanging on a nail 35- 40 years ago but cannot remember where I put a 24” pipe wrench down ten min ago...

I've occasionally bought something to replace what i couldn't find because i needed to get back to what i was doing. I can live with that. What gets me rattled is the times when i go to put the replacement away and the original is right where i was going to put the new one.
