Looking for really nice wrinkled red maple (acer rubrum) or hard rock/sugar maple (acer saccharum) or silver maple (acer saccharinum) that is slab sawn/flat sawn cut, sapwood 2 face & surfaced 2 face. Looking for increments of 24-22” length, 8-7” width and 7/8” (4/4) or 1-7/8” (8/4) thick.

Long plank of 48-44” preferred on the 4/4 to be cross-cut in half. Flitch would be a bonus.

Much obliged,

Arn

I have curly red 8/4 ×48 but 6" wide
I edited it and added hard rock/sugar maple as well as silver maple.

But, Mike @Mike1950 I know you have beautiful curly bigleaf maple- if you have 8/4, about 3-4 pieces or so, I would love some. I know how much effort and how much time (how busy you are) it takes to find the proper pieces, so at your convenience, let me know what you have available. TY.

I have some big pieces in kiln. Unfortunately they are buried under a couple pallets of wood. All dry. They might be 1.75
I will try to dig out this coming week.

Need legs on this thread……… @Eric Rorabaugh , come on I know you have a stack of wrinkles Warden taking up lots of space and you need space for new hauls. Vertical stacking only works in NYC because rent is high and landlords are extra greedy.

Dangling a carrot at you, “Front row, third base line or front row left field!” Forget left field, front row- you really want to sit and heckle on the visiting team or sit where the visiting fans sit? Most batters are right handed, so you will be watching their back and butt when they are at bat 😂. Right field front row is where you want to be by the Yankees dugout- freebie sitting area to get signed balls (baseballs). Not cheap Warden, but it will make up for the lost time you have been dreaming to see the Yankees play. Forget seeing them play the Houston Astros- the LA Dodgers is the “Marquee” team to beat and see! You said four tickets correct?

I took all the curly I had to SWAT last year but my buddy still has a few that his sis in law was selling until she stopped. I'll geab them next time I'm over there and see if they fit the bill. I may go grab another pallet of them later on.

You know @Eric Rorabaugh those ticket cost drops significantly if you go see a visiting team that are bottom feeders 😂 and in the afternoons. The ballpark would probably be half empty (almost never for Yankee games) which will not have the same effect- anytime I have gone there, it is so damn loud and about full and it always feels like playoff time of the season. I have been going to catch Soto play and the Yankees better sign him cause he is going to love that right shallow porch and he is a lefty and he wanted to play for a NY team.

Greedy landlords.. argghhh that is funny. Government is the greedy one. Taxes, through the roof, insurance through the roof, maintainence through the roof. Restrictions added in last 10 years for what you can do to deadbeat renters, through the roof.. who gets blamed for increased rent, the greedy f...ing landlord.... makes sense....

Yes and yes. But heavy gentrification and greedy landlords in NYC. How can a business renew a lease when something that was $ 10k a month becomes $ 20K a month? The same goes with residential rent. People pay $ 3K for a shoe box that is 300 square feet and it is not even in Manhattan. Resign your lease the following year and greedy landlords will hike it up to $ 4K. That is why people move to the outskirts of town because of this and get the hell out of New York. You resign a lease when your lease expires- watch out and make sure you have a storage unit or a space line up to live in.

Greedy landlords- why would a maintenance cost thousands a month for individuals living in a condo or coop in NYC? I have design in some of these high end neighborhoods, but come on it is a full service elevator, door man building, the whole place has to be maintained that requires a crew. But say there are 100 units in there-$ 3K times 100 unit comes to $ 300k a month multiply that by 12 months, that is $ 3.6 million a year. WTF? I ritually follow the real estate so don’t get me going and you find it funny because it is not funny at all. We have a very, very high cost of living here- so we get hit harder than anyone.

That is funny. I am a landlord small but, have been since early 20s. Takes 90-120 days to get deadbeat out and a lawyer. My taxes and insurance have more than doubled in last 7 years. And if you were lucky enough to have rentals in 2020 you got nothing for your efforts for 2 years. You say sue them, sure, spend the money, then they go BK. Stupid government choices cost landlords money and thus it costs renters. Maybe a change in government- hold it no politics. And I have stories- 7 tons of household garbage....
Makes you mad, hell it costs me money. I will only post here if I get pics of curl....

I am just trying to score some maple and I won’t even start with the stuff happening in NY becomes is political. You have a big idea that we are going through mass asylum seekers coming here for safe haven. People’s safety is at risk. AMERICA’s safety is at risk. We don’t know who these people are what their records are. Where does the money come from to fund that activity- did we New Yorkers agree to this? No the Uncle Tom the mayor opened his big a$$ mouth. Now we can’t take care of our own homelessness and where do you think those people end up instead of going into the shelter? They sleep in the subway seats, public spaces, squat at business doorways at night when the business closes, begging for money, blah, blah, blah……..

Hey Arn - sounds like you found what you needed. Was going to post this one and offer it up to you.
Just showing a couple sections wetted to give you an idea of front/back sides. Heartwood doesn’t go all the way through. Sliver of bark/cambium on one corner…,etc. 6” wide and 1.75” thick x 30.5” long.

Hi John @JD1137! He was kind enough to let some of his nice pieces go, which I am thankful for! I am going to leave this thread up as being “open” as I constantly need figured maple and I need to stock pile so they can season properly. I am looking still for 8/4 as I need the option of book-matching (7” wide minimum, 20” long minimum). I am looking for all sapwood.

That piece you posted is really beautiful even with the heartwood. It is 1” too narrow for what I need. I do appreciate it and post it so someone here can take a crack at it! If you find anything in your stash within those dimensions, kindly give me 1st crack at it.

Arn
