Ideally a couple board feet, +/-.

1+/- bf of 5/4
1+/- bf of 7/4

length to width of pieces not critical, but ideally something that would fit in a USPS flat rate box to make shipping reasonable... as I recall, those max out a bit over 13" in length inside dimensions.

@Lucasblanco37 - I know you have a good bit you're looking to sell - let me know if you have anything that might suit.

I can make that work, I’ve got some of both thickness. I’ll have to get some large flat rate boxes but happy to accommodate

Flat Rate boxes are not necessarily more reasonable. Pirate ship is less expensive but the box needs to be a cardboard box not a FRB or actually even an envelope . Taped up of course. Just trying to help you out.

Thanks, will look forward to seeing what you have. As Rob said, happy to have it shipped in any economical way - was mainly using flat rate boxes as a rough proxy for size that won't cause shipping to break the bank.

I don’t want to break any rules on the site - I’m new to wood barter. From here, should we start a “conversation”? Or do all sales happen publicly?

All publicly. Conversations are ok for initial investigation and even discussing details as long as the final deal is in an open thread - but in this case I dont see a reason to move anything to conversations - unless for example, you have a couple pieces that might work and you want to offer me a choice but plan to keep the other for yourself and dont want it mistaken as also for sale.

I see. I didn’t know if you’re supposed to share your mailing address publicly and all that.
Between your last message and now I may have just sold my entire stock of milled Ebony (241 BF). I will keep you guys updated.
(I have plenty more to come) but this customer has already seen it and seems like he wants to move forward.

Wow, that entire $20k stockpile? Good for you.
Actually more than this stock pile. If you see it in person you’d see how quaility it is. I’m not a professional “wood grader” but I’m very peculiar with my woods and the value here is nuts. I simply don’t have the time to sell it. Almost all of this would be $150/bf+ on all sites. My personal stash is looking pretty lol that was the main objective behind all this Ebony (don’t tell my accountant that).

Congratulations, tha t is fantastic!

You are correct - mailing addresses paypal/venmo addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and the like are to be traded in conversations. But pictures and terms of the deal in open forum.

@SENC
Leaving town for the weekend. I’ll check my stock on Monday.
Thanks Pinky. And no rush at all - it was a post of opportunity since Lucas had a stash he was trying to unload. I've just about used the last of mine, so not for a particular use but for future use.

I know this isn't the conventional route on here, but Exotic Wood Zone has a number of bowl blank sizes of gaboon on sale. Last time I checked, the best deal was on one of their larger blanks (8" or 6") and it equated to $60-70/bf which is super cheap. These would all be 8/4 minimum, which should fit your needs.

I've never purchased bowl blanks of gaboon from EWZ, but i did purchase 200 pen blanks during a sale that put the blanks at $21/bf which is just stupid cheap for gaboon. I realize pen blanks are generally going to be the best quality and that quality won't necessarily translate to larger pieces, but the pen blanks i bought are all jet black... like virtually zero brown streaks. I had a similar experience buying Indian ebony pen blanks from them.

FWIW, I discussed this EWZ purchase with Lucas, and he did not have as good of an experience buying gaboon from them. So your mileage may vary. I just know that I've gotten nearly pure black gaboon from EWZ. Those pen blanks are much blacker than the 40lbs of top grade gaboon off cuts i bought from Lucas last month. I'm also completely assuming that depth of blackness is an important metric to you, which I suppose it may not be at all lol. But either way, you might want to check out EWZ.
