Hi all,

My makerspace is looking for a PC 892 router if anyone has one laying around. It will be used on a router table. We are looking for this model for 2 major reasons.

1. It appears to be indestructible.
2. It has a variable speed that shows RPM's instead of 1-6 which makes it almost dummy proof for some of our users. (Emphasis on almost.)

If anyone has any suggestions for alternatives that I haven't found with my google doctorate please feel free to share!

Got a big Triton that I'd be willing to get rid of. Probably unused, but was way before digital readouts, so probably not what you want. Plus it will be at least 2 months before I can get to it, with all the work I have left over from the storms and such.

I have the big porter cable on my table. Bought a slightly used one cheap. As a spare. I probably will not need. They are a beast. But it along with mine is also old. Not digital.probably why it still works.

I have been advised to shy away from triton unless it’s one of the older models. How old do you think it is?

Oops wrong person. Do you happen to know the model on the pc?

It's probably been 20 years since I've even laid eyes on it when I purchased a rolling workbench/tool cabinet from Sams. I just don't use a router much, never have. The only thing I currently use one for is routing a rabbet to make picture frames, and even then, I usually use the table saw (the table saw being much easier to access than a router and router bits. But have also been thinking about building another wood-strip canoe/kayak. But I have smaller routers to do that work, or I can take it to a friend's cabinet shop. Probably bought it in the 80s because I was gonna shape a lot of tongue and groove in soft maple for wood flooring, then shaping wood slats to make a wood strip canoe. For both operations, I had a friend with a cabinet/millwork shop that had shapers that did those jobs much more easily than a router table. Now, I will have to confess that my feeble memory does not recall the color with certainty. It may be orange, but then again, it could be silver and black. I remember wanting a big Triton because of the above-table height adjustment.

The big one is the 7539 speedmatic. The 6902 is a 2 1/4 hp that was discontinued several years ago, it had a variable speed that automatically adjusted to the work load. We had one at work and it crapped out in short order. word is they stopped making it cause it had lots of problems, having said that, I see several on ebay.
