Howdy ladies and gentlemen. It's time for our monthly series,13 Questions. Each person gets the opportunity to answer 13 random questions by me. Some of the questions are woodworking related, some are not, and some are off the wall.
Some of the questions will be the same for everyone and some will not, I have an ever-growing list of questions I will pick from.
I want to thank everyone that has already taken the time to reply to my private conversations about this and replied with their answers.

13 Questions with @JR Parks (July 2026)

Q-1- You’ve most likely produced many finished pieces over the years. Are there any that stand out for you?
A- yes.
A collection of 7 pens all Texas woods entitled una semana ( one week) In a box of mesquite with hackberry lining with the days of the week in Spanish with varying fonts depicting the various moods of the days (long for Monday, festive for Saturday etc.) as a gift for a very kind person.
Six drawerJewel boxes for wife, daughters in law and two granddaughters’.
Many many bowls to the wife, family, close friends, girlfriends, folks that walk regularly in front of the house, and anyone in need of a simple pickup.
Q-2- What’s your favorite cartoon and why?
A- Gotta be roadrunner & coyote or Bullwinkle & Rockie. Well don’t give up & you can always beat Boris & Natasha.
Q-3- Where do you get your inspiration for what you build?
A- Watching and noting others and trying to imitate. Hints from family. Trying to imitate nature. Hoping to do some fantastic wood justice in a simplistic way.
Q-4- What's one thing you hope people remember about you when they think of you?
A-that I was kind.
Q-5- What are the three apps you use the most on your mobile device and why?
A- weather bug - gotta know whether to hunt-fish-woodwork - or play pickleball
Merlin for my birds and bird calls
Kindle or audible for books
Q-6-What’s an area of your woodworking you want to improve?
A- For the most part just ww in general. Specially more complex boxes and small hollow forms
Q-7- Would you rather be able to teleport anywhere or be able to read minds?
A- Definitely teleport. So many places to see and wonder. So many trees to see where our wood comes from. Quickly go the see the sequoias and hug one, then off southwestern Mexico to see cocobolo then… well you get the picture. Historical & natural wonders complete the bill.
Q-8- What’s the most ridiculous fact you know?
A- hercules club zanthoxylum clava-herculis Rutaceae from memory
Q-9- What is your favorite drink?
A-Dr Pepper zero sugar. But every once in a while the pure cane sugar one in an ice cold bottle. And of course ice cold water to cure Texas heat.
Q-10- Are you a cat person or a dog person?
A- Dog for sure. Cats are ok but they don’t listen, sit, or fetch. They do play with lasers better than dogs tho
Q-11- Hamburger or Taco? and why?
A- This has to be 50-50. Texas is the home of Whataburger and pretty much a beef eating state. And tacos a staple in central and necessity in South Texas.
Q-12- What is one question you would like to ask me?
A- 13 why 13
Q-13- How did you hear about Woodbarter, and what keeps you coming back?
A- Really can’t remember how. Probably a wood question. Could hardly figure out the rules. Got fussed at by Kevin -almost didn’t come back.
But what an incredible mix of folks. What kind people that share the same passion.
