Howdy ladies and gentlemen. It's time for our monthly series,13 Questions. Each person gets the opportunity to answer 13 random questions by me. Some of the questions are woodworking related, some are not, and some are off the wall.
Some of the questions will be the same for everyone and some will not, I have an ever-growing list of questions I will pick from.
I want to thank everyone that has already taken the time to reply to my private conversations about this and replied with their answers.

13 Questions with @Spinartist (September 2026)
Q-1-What is the weirdest thing you have seen in someone else’s home?
A- Wow. I've been in hundreds of homes in my 68 years. Weirdest? DO people count? Well now thinking about it, I was at a house in south west Florida doing a woodturning demonstration & the neighbor had a sloth living in his garage with the walls, ceiling & supports set up so the sloth could climb everywhere. The sloth is now in a new sloth exhibit with others of his kind.
Q-2- How much of woodworking is about problem-solving rather than simply following instructions?
A- Probably 10 to 20 % . More if instructions are not followed. I have 12 clients I do Handyman & property maintenance for & whenever I'm installing or maintaining something, I like to look at the manuals. Saves me time & frustration.
Q-3- Do you think alien life exists?
A- Absolutely. There are to many stars with planets orbiting them for earth to be the only planet with "intelligent" life.
Q-4- What differentiates you from our other woodworking members?
A- Probably my understanding of the wood lathe & how to apply the cutting edge of all tools to the wood. I can use almost any woodturning chisel to make the same cut. It's how my brain works plus teaching the basics for 24 plus years.
Q-5- Are you more productive at night or in the morning?
A- Definitely morning. I've worked evening & nights but now, mornings are better. 20 years ago it was the same morning or evening.
Q-6-Besides dogs or domestic cats do you have any favorite animals?
A- Cindy, my better half ! I don't think she would be classified as domesticated though.
Q-7-What’s the silliest thing you’ve done in the workshop that no one will believe unless they saw it happen?
A- No one would believe me if I told you.
Q-8- As a child, what did you wish to become when you grew up?
A- No idea. Was always living in the moment up in Iowa as a kid. My girlfriend says I still haven't grown up & never will.
Q-9- If you could collaborate on a woodworking project with someone from this forum, who would it be?
A- @Mike Hill . Mike Probably has some very nice wood stored away that we could use to make an excellent piece! Plus his wit & knowledge would make it a great time!!
Q-10- You’ve most likely produced many finished pieces over the years. Are there any that stand out for you?
A- Yes. Out of the thousands of woodturnings I've made in the last 26 years the one that stands out is a hollow form made from Monkey Pod burl. It's 2" wide by 1 1/2" tall. 5/16" opening & hollowed to 1/8" wall thickness. The form & finish are perfect. The burl colors, patterns & chatoyance are extraordinary. I will never sell this piece.
Q-11- Sweet & sour or hot & spicy?
A- Yuck. Neither. I grew up in Iowa & prefer simple non spicy foods... Unless you're asking about Cindy!!
Q-12- What is one question you would like to ask me?
A- Can't think of anything. But I'd like to commend you for how you take part in making this such a great site!!
Q-13- How did you hear about Woodbarter, and what keeps you coming back?
A- I think @Tim Carter told me about Woodbarter. I keep coming back for the friendly banter, information, seeing photos of things members have made & to see what new wood is offered.
