A while back I sold a guy 3 deer hunter pens made with deer antler and he wanted another for a birthday gift, I finally found the blank I prepared, put it somewhere I wouldn’t lose it annnnd couldn’t find it,and got it done.

Nicely turned and finished.:good2:
Looks great.👀

Ever consider re-orientating the Bolt Handle and Clip to get the pens
Bolt Action to Lock in the Down position so the pen works like a
Real Right Handed Bolt Action Rifle?

I like it. Are you treating the antler at all before you work it? I don't make pens but I assume the process is you cut it to length, drill a hole, glue in a sleeve, then mount that in the lathe and thin it to the desired diameter. I'd think antler would get a little brittle when it gets thin, no? Do you just use files and sand paper, rather than cutting tools?

It is reversed from the original position however this one hit the clip so it’s at a slight angle.

I don’t do anything special, process is as you described, cut, drill, glue, square up and turn. I use negative rake carbide tools, get it as close as I can then sand the rest of the way. I haven’t had any antler explode yet.🤞

I hide things so well I forget where I put them all the time.
Great looking antler.

I did switch it around,I personally didn’t like it,my customer however did prefer it that way, thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Yes, I found years ago at gun shows that anyone who is familiar with firearms noticed that the bolt handle was backwards. As I am familiar with firearms I changed the bolt handle with the very first kit I bought years ago before they had the second set of slots.
