you also guessed right- I am happy with what I got buttttt- the folks I bought it from were.... well they were a pain in the butt. after sorting for 2 hours- they starting taking stuff out of my pile and saying it was not for sale...- it was to say the least unpleasant- but probably only because I had to bite my tongue. No reason to waste the miles I went. I found a solution to dealing with them... Koa part 2 soon.Could be koa sap wood, it spalts well and has good curl in the right piece. Since his most recent acquisition was a load of koa that will be my guess.
