I was not familiar with Kaden’s Cause and just spent a few minutes on the site. I'm assuming this is an urn? If so, would you mind sharing more details about the insert you used to connect the box and lid as I'm sure others would be interested.
Quite some time ago I was asked to make an urn for a very young child. I did not know the family at all but met them to discuss what their thoughts were and what they might be interested in design wise, wood type, color, etc. That was probably one of the harder things I've done turning wise simply from the fact that I wanted it to be perfect in their eyes. Meeting them again to deliver it was very emotional for all of us.
Great cause Lou and there will certainly be a family that will cherish it forever!
Yes, it is an Urn, and our club donates many to this organization as a community service project. The Executive director lives in town and picks them up when we have a few collected. On most of the Urns we make are press fit boxes that eventually are sealed. Some guys with the tools and skills do threaded tops.Very well done Lou and the color is spectacular!

Like the story you shared, the Urn below I made for a special person who was looking for something special to honor her child.
It's kind of hard to follow a heartfelt turning like those from Lou. But here's my box, about 90% done. I still need to put one more coat of poly on and glue the handle in place. I decided not to wait for the beads, they won't be here until next week. I give it a few turns around the bench top every time I work on it just to make it a "turned box". That's just a little sawdust that trickled off the handle bolster, blew it right off. This will be mailed to Beads of Courage.

Etsy sellers now list urn threaded inserts that are already prepped to epoxy into the urn. Also other size threaded inserts.

The beads arrived in todays mail so I decided to add one to the top. So this is the box I'll donate as soon as they let me know if there's a local hospital who participates or if I need to mail it to Tucson. They also include a business card you can put your name on and what kinds of wood the box is made from.
In case anyone is wondering, the beads are just over 3/4" diameter, maybe 3/8" deep and the hole through the middle is maybe an eighth inch (so you could string it on a coat hanger wire or something for a handle if you wanted to).

You know I'd send it to you in a heart beat Jerry. But you said you don't want or need any more knick knack things cluttering up your place.
I know I missed the challenge, but I just finished my Beads of Courage box for my turning club’s current project due in a week and a half. We did these same ones during Covid as well. It is a combined project between Northwest Woodturners and Guild of Oregon Woodworkers. There was an article with instructions in the AAW magazine the first time we did them.

I got a nice letter from Beads of Courage today thanking me for my donation and the box. I was beginning to wonder if they'd send an acknowledgement or not.
