Ash bowl with koa splines

Something different for a change. Making a bowl has its stresses but certainly less stressful than a hollow form, so I was able to relax and just have fun with this piece. It is over 12 1/2 inches in diameter and I made it for my son and his fiancée.

Beautiful bowl and a nice gift. I know what you mean about "relaxing" making a bowl. I don't make that many anymore, but sometimes it's a lot of fun to chuck one up and really go to it hollowing it out. I find it also kind of helps clear the mind when you are creatively "stuck".

Mm. Looks very good. These “simpler” woods very nicely break the confusion of the more complex pieces. If I was in a shop, I would seriously consider buying it. That or getting a lathe again.
