3 different species can have the common name dead finish. This also comes up as Acacia tetragonophylla. Any idea why? Do two different species go by the common name "dead finish"?
I’ve wondered about the name myself. At first I was wondering if it was a brand of finishing oilNice piece of wood.
You have to wonder what the history of that name is. Yikes, they must have named a lot of wood that day, or does Australia have magic mushrooms.... :)
Ok thanks for the info. Hard to find info on a lot of these aussie woods!3 different species can have the common name dead finish.
Acacia tetragonophylla has a usually a small shrub that doesn’t really yield much usually timber.
Acacia carneourum is the third. That’s the one i call purple wattle.
Different species can have multiple common names in Australia. I know there 4 species of Acacia that have the common name Boree.
It’s taken me years to learn all this. Spent a lot of late nights staying up talking to Aussie’s. I took a trip once with my wife and mother in law. My mother in law thought I was talking to another woman because I was messaging back and forth at 3 am with one of my friends about woodOk thanks for the info. I’ll see what I can pull out for you. I’m sorting through stuff. Making room for more, and paying medical billsHi @Friedrich9 I have turned a couple Australian woods but would love to try a few more. Do you have any selections that would work as a spindle blank 18” x 1.25” x 1.25”? Wider is fine too.
Sorry to hear of your medical bills. I've had my share of health issue too. Hope you are doing better! Thank you for taking a look for me! My finished spindles will be 18" x 1.25" x 1.x25", so anything that dimension or larger will work for me. Thanks!I’ll see what I can pull out for you. I’m sorting through stuff.
