Banksia peppermill

Finally finished this mill. Couple coats of poly, then waxed/buffed. Wasn’t 100 % sure the mechanism would be long enough, but ended up ok by about 1/4”. If necessary I could have used the 20” mechanism but prefer keeping it for a future monster mill(would be about 22” overall if maxed out. Most of these mills have been about 12” overall, I think this may be tallest I’ve done as I usually end up trimming the stem. Overall of this one is 12-1/4”

That is one stately looking mill! Beautiful lines and great visual appeal with the pod in the middle.

Thanks Chuck! Yea, the banksia held up fine. Once I turn through the purple fuzz and into solid material, I clean out the eyes with dental picks, then give nearly every eye a dose of thin CA around the eyes to start stabilizing them from wanting to pop out. On a mill like this I probably use about 1/2 oz of thin CA. See arrow where I point to area to glue. You don’t want to glue inside the eye, but rather around the outside.
By the time you’re near final shape, you should have no gaps around the eyes if you have been generous with the thin CA.
