Fantastic! Pinwheel or fan design. Well laid out! Noticed the lighter brown lines are doubled — were they not dark enough on the first go around? ChuckDecided to try a simple basket illusion- sort of. I wanted to put more color on it but my wife decided it looks better like this….who am I to argue. I did not do the underneath as it can’t really be seen.View attachment 290005View attachment 290006
Thanks for the positive comment. I doubled the lines on the lighter color as I screwed up the design on one of the arms. I had colored most of the line before I realized what I had done, it was easier to double the line rather than trying to scrape off the mistakeFantastic! Pinwheel or fan design. Well laid out! ThanksWell done Ivan! Toughest one is always the first, half the battle is figuring out the procedures that work for you.
I agree with your wife on this one, less is often more. IMO would have been too much with more color. As someone once told me, negative space is just as important as the design. Too much of either may mess up the whole thing.
Turns out I actually think that extra boldness gives a great contrast. Fortunate recovery! ChuckThanks for the positive comment. The others were just practice roundscan’t believe that’s just your first. Great job.
I use a small palm carving skew chisel. Others use scalpels.Just an fyi in case no one has tried this, I colored part of a square that should have been left blank, I tried scraping it with an Xacto knife but I found that the color didn’t come off very easily. I have a small steel brush for my Dremmel which removed it fairly quickly.
You should see the pile of blown up pieces—through the side walls, broken rims, irregular walls. It’s been quite a process. What helped was lathe time, the right tools, a mentor, and classes with some experts—Jackofsky, Jesequel, Clewes.I need you to teach me how to make hollow forms.....the student must now become the teacher.
