Black Locust

Hi, I have seen some videos about black locust beinh highly toxic, but yet see many utube turners turning black locust bowls that can be used for food. Is this a thing or is toxic black locust being toxic just somr bodys opinion. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

They are not “highly toxic” laburnum and yew can be but not black locust.

Well, it is toxic if you are trying to eat parts of it. Supposedly parts of the seeds can be eaten if they are processed and cooked correctly, but all other parts of the tree are toxic. The only exception is the spring flowers which can be harvested and eaten.

I work with black locust extensively and have never had nor heard of anyone else having a specific allergic reaction to it. Doesn't mean it can't cause allergic reactions, but not typically listed as one to be careful when working with it.

thanks I was a little worried, I love locust but I saw some videos that mention back in the day when locust was used for building more than now workes were having skin breakout from saw dust exposure. I didn't wantto sell or even give away bowl that could cause a reaction. I was wondering if that part was a myth
