Blue spruce?

I had a tree I took down last spring and tried turning some. So full of sap pockets, I stopped 5 minutes in and burned the whole tree.

Edit: I'm sure not all trees are as bad as the one I tried, but doubt anyone commercially will have any. If I worked at it, I'm sure I could have found pieces that didn't have as much pitch in them and made some very nice pieces, but it's not worth the time and extreme mess for a very ordinary white softwood.

with high winds we have had and very wet ground- many blue and other spruce bit the dust. Shallow roots and dense foliage- they go over easy. Spokane probably lost 1/3 of mature spruce in 2015- record winds just rolled them over. I helped neighbor push one out of street, it leaked pitch out wherever it broke or was cut. made a mess out of chain and bar.. not even good firewood

Someone I know wants anything pen to bowl size.
I will ask the wife to keep and eye out for some. We just burned a wheel barrel full 2 weeks ago and some Norway spruce this week. We likely will come across plenty more seasoned spruce as winter progresses.

I found seasoned Blue spruce sample blanks on the porch this week. They would work for pen blanks.

@Alancw hey, you still looking for blue spruce (Picea pungens). I’ve got some I cut and air dried a few years ago. I could accommodate smaller bowl blank sizes
