A little progress - took the transom to my local dealer and used their template to mark the motor mount holes.

Also got the transom doubler cut and laminated. Good flow through the seep holes, so should be a good bonding. Will drill motor holes tomorrow.

Picked up a Seaview cable seal while there for the battery cables and fuel line as they come through the bulkhead into the motorwell. Nice product, will get a hole cut in the bulkhead for it tomorrow. Then think I can finally start mounting bulkheads to my strongback - hopefully Thursday.

Kind of looks like what I did this morning. I glued a butt joint for a topside. The plans call for single thickness transom but I wanted a little thicker in case I want a little motor so I glued up a double thick. I mixed up a 9 oz. Batch this time and used the surplus to prime coat more parts. I think that is about as big of a batch as I want to deal with, it was starting to stiffen up a little by the time I was done. It's starting to look like I may be pretty close on epoxy but I will wait and see, the last order came pretty fast so I shouldn't have much downtime if I run low.
 
Got my oversized motor holes drilled and filled with thickened epoxy. And decided before I begin mounting bulkheads on the strongback I'm going to epoxy them while I can lay them flat to avoid it running. I'm eager to start putting things together, but this just makes more sense.

It's always easy to get ahead of yourself 😂. A job well planned is half done.
 
Did a little more gluing and epoxy coating this morning, it's the final glue up. Maybe by next week I can start putting some things together. I think I will be able to work more hours at a time then. With my limited space the glue ups and prefinishing is work a hour then wait 23 hours. 17412855663952830351368641012197.webp
 
More of the same, prefinish, and more prefinish. The boats designer recommends it and says it's easier in the long run and makes a better boat. I sure hope he's right because it seems like a never ending job 😕

Yes it is. Just finished scraping the epoxy on the first side of my bulkheads. Will give them a light sand this afternoon and epoxy the other side this weekend or Monday. I figure it was going to have to be done at some time, and easier now.

I'm going to be interested to hear whether you think the epoxy on the sides stiffens and makes then more difficult to bend into shape with the hull. I've been debating whether to precoat the inside face of my hull and side panels, and this is the only potential downside that comes to mind. I'm betting it won't make much difference.

The bottom in my picture is the second coat. I scraped a little then went at it with my random orbit and some 120, it sands pretty fast. I started out with a roller and throw away brush, I'm now using a body filler squeegee and brush. I feel like I'm getting a better job with less work. That second coat looks to be drying pretty smooth, I think I will call that good. It's probably going to get a couple coats of paint with a little sand for traction anyway.

I have a coat on both sides now and don't see any big difference, of course your plywood is a much different product. I don't have any real sharp bends so I am not anticipating any issues. You could always coat a piece of scrap to try it.

Yeah, I ditched the roller for squeegee and brush, too - but think I would have been ok if brushing after rolling. I did find the first coat the most challenging for even distribution. The 2nd I just brushed on and it went fine. I think the squeegee will be best for sure when wetting glass sheathing. Scraping worked great - much easier with 24-36 hours than after the epoxy cures harder. I put the 2nd coat on while the first was still a bit tacky, so didn't scrape or sand in between.

I'm pretty good at cutting freehand in odd positions, tomorrow I will put a new blade on my little cordless saw and snip them off. Id do it this afternoon but the time change has me messed up, nap sounds like more fun 😊. A lot of time consuming prep work then it comes together quickly, only to slow to a crawl with a long punch list. I really don't have a lot of time in it because it takes so much time for the epoxy to cure. I might get 2 or 3 hours in tomorrow then wait a day for things to cure.

Next is clean up of scarf joints then layout of the hull and side panels. Progress is slow, but sure.

I've also gotten my wiring, panel, lights, and battery panel and breakers ordered. Electrical stuff has gotten expensive! But may as well do it right from the beginning.
