Access hatches cut out of the sole pieces.
And support for those hatches cut out.
I'll embed some small RE magnets in the hatches and supports to keep the hatches from flying away, and run some tubing around the hatches to help keep grit out. Experimenting with some scrap.

If someone steps on the side of an access hatch, one side or the other of the center keel, how do you keep the hatch from tipping? I like the rubber seal idea.

That what the support piece (one for each) will prevent.
I bought 2 sheets of 3/4 inch walnut. Almost gave me the big one....Try not to soil yourself when you see marine plywood prices.
back in 1984, I bought a few 3/4" sheets of walnut at $84 a sheet. I have never been curious as to what they cost now. I'm afraid to find out......... Nubs

The work definitely slows down working on the "little things". Hatch cover supports finished, fitted, and epoxied in place, including some RE magnets on the corners (matching magnets in the hatch covers). Keelsons notched and sole pieces dry fit. Will get a final coat of epoxy on the inside bottom and debating a coat of white gloss paint there and on the underside of the sole pieces, just to make it easier to keep clean and to spy any problems under there, before I do final install of the sole.

Decking longitudinals cut for length and dry fit, will need to be shaped a bit. I decided to "square up" the cockpit - doesn't look quite as nice as it would if it followed the side lines, but will be easier for flapboards/blind and a cap, and the outer longitudinals give me something to tie the deck and coaming to.
Are you planning on a fixed cannon mount in the bow or multiple mounts along the gunnels so you can switch your cannon from side to side as needed?
