I hope everyone has there eye on things they would like to bid on.
It's going to be difficult to keep track of them all -- and to pay for all the things I'd like if I actually win them.

Is there a forum option to "tag" threads so I can quickly get a list of just the ones I'm trying to track in the auction? (I know I can set them as "watched")

Select to watch the threads you like then use "Watched Threads" at the top of the page. Only those threads will show in that view.

Duncan that's a good question, maybe Kevin or Scott can chime in on that one as I don't really know.

No way to currently tag a thread like Duncan described. we have that option in the message system(Prefixes), but not inline thread tagging.
Thanks, it's not like it's something I'd use much, I just thought it would be convenient in this situation.

Duncan the auction forum is pretty small - would you have much trouble finding the ones you're interested in especially when subscribed? Anyway I have asked one of the guys who writes addons for us if he's aware of something such as you ask and I'll update when I hear from him.

Small but growing ... already up to 3 pages of auction lots :yipee:

With the "show watched threads", I get activity on any and all threads I once commented in (teach me to poke my nose in all over the place) -- unless I unsubscribe from them (but then I'd like to resubscribe after the auction is over, cuz I'm nosy like that.) My ideal would be to have some way to list new activity on threads I've chosen to watch in this auction forum, so I know if I have to retaliate rebid on something and not be "distracted" by other forum activity.

But really -- don't go chasing down stuff just for me. It will be good for my domestic situation if I get out-bid on everything, if you know what I mean :pleasantry:

I see what you mean. Maybe we can come up with something - I hope.

I think I found just what the doctor ordered Duncan. An add on that will add another tab on your top menu bar called Bookmarks - where you can keep a list of any and all threads you're interested in. Like a rolodex right there on the menu which you can manage. How's that? I have ordered the addon but like most XF addons they are written by British developers and although I have placed my order for it, the guy may be asleep (it's 1:30 am there) and won't send it until his morning which is about the time I'll be sawing logs.

I should have it installed and learned how to set it up tomorrow though - in plenty of time for the auction.

Sounds perfect ... :ok:

Thanks Kevin -- some nice options with this add-on :yourock:

I have it installed, set properly (I think) and have tested it. It's not perfect but I think it achieves exactly what you wanted. It doesn't bookmark "threads" per se, but it does bookmark individual posts within a thread. So really, although you can mark as many posts in a thread as you want, you really only need to mark one in order to have the thread. For long threads with lots of pages it would be handy for marking multiple posts there though. Here's how it works.

There's a BM tab on your main menu - I set it to show, even if you haven't BM'd any posts as a reminder to you that it's available.

Every post in every thread has a BM link below the post.

bookmarks2.webp

When you click a BM link in a post it opens this pop-up. It is self-explanatory since it has descriptions of each option.

bookmarks3.webp

There's 3 main links in each saved BM:
#1 is your Note to Self comment. If youo didn't fill that out in the pop-up pictured above, that link will not be shown.
#2 is the direct link to the actual post.
#3 will do the same thing #1 does in case you didn't make a Note To Self because if you didn't #1 wouldn't be there.

Here's the pop-up summary you will see if you click #1 or #3

I'm already using this addon - going back and finding threads I need to keep on my radar. I'm going to be sure to keep the list as-needed only and prune them as they become no longer needed or it'll get too full and defeat its purpose. This is a fantastic addon and will be really perfect for those bidding on multiple items in the auction, but even further useful going forward to keep track of your trade threads. Thanks for the suggestion @duncsuss !

Kevin -- but wait, there's more!

If you use the "Tag" field in that pop-up dialog, entering for example "auction" or "technique" or "terrible joke" as applicable, you can then filter your list of bookmarks to show just the ones you want to see at this moment.

You get this in the top-right corner of the list of bookmarks ...

I hadn't seen your post when I wrote this -- but have since. I found it self-explanatory, but your tutorial & pix confirm I got it right.

I saw that Duncan but forgot to do a screenshot when I was making the tutorial. I think I'll split all our posts into a Bookmark thread using your post in this thread as the OP so everyone can join in and we can all have a dedicated Bookmark thread,
