Box Of Taiwanese Wood Samples For Eric:

Various Taiwanese species and various sizes. Glad you liked it! 71$ shipped. View attachment 279718
While I know that I can’t get these I would be interested to know what wood is what species. Also does huodendron biaristatum/parviflorum grow in Taiwan? It’s got this beautiful red Color with a somewhat pronounced grain. It’s some real nice stuff and I would like to see if I could get more. I know it doesn’t grow soo large but I really liked the small amount I had and would like to get more.

@Byron Barker I would be interested in something similar - without any kind of rush!
Samples should be at least 5" by 1¾", any thickness (even very thin is fine).
Thanks!
Paolo

Sorry, but I don’t do any milling like that. Also, I cannot ship wood from my location as of last month due to the tariff change the current administration implemented. The Taiwanese government cut shipments to the US due to it. For now the wood is on the shelf!

We don’t have that tree in Taiwan. I researched it a bit. Lovely wood though! Wish we did have it.

Thank you. I don't need the samples cut to size! Any shape is fine, including small logs, as long as I can fit that size into the sample.

Shipping would be to Italy, so there shouldn't be any tariff issue...am I wrong?

Thanks!
Paolo

Thanks for taking some time for me. It’s supposed to be a good bow wood too. Something I believe you are well versed in? I recently cut a near perfect Mirabelle (prunus domestica subsp. Syriaca) log and am planning to make a bow for my son because kids do that kind of stuff. I heard that it’s one of the best bow woods around.

That would be a real treasure of a bow your son will get there! Many Prunus species normally make good bows, but many of them are either difficult to get straight pieces of without twisted grain or getting a stave to dry without checking horribly. My favorite wood is definitely plum. I ordered it all the way from Siberia just to get a usable piece!

I know. I haven’t split it yet but apart from two small knots it’s two meters of perfect plum wood.

@Byron Barker these are the only pieces not on the list you sent me. Think you can tell what they are. The last two pics are front and back of that piece.

First picture looks like bishopwood, but I can’t find the list that is associated with that number. Second is clearly Chinese Sumac. 3rd pic is carbonized camphor and the last two are better samples of the Taiwanese Incense cedar.
