Hi fellow woodworkers,

My name is Thomas. I’ve been woodworking since high school shop class—about 24 years now—and I’m still actively woodworking both professionally and as a hobby.

Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to work at Taylor Guitars while attending college, and after graduation I started a skateboard company called Natural Log. Since then my interests have expanded into leather-working, laser engraving, and woodworking for the hospitality industry.

Today I own and operate a small business creating custom leather menus, serving boards, signage, and other products for restaurants and hotels. While my work has evolved over the years, craftsmanship and woodworking remain at the core of what I enjoy most.

I’m always looking to learn new techniques, share ideas, and connect with other makers. I look forward to being part of this community.

Thanks for having me,
Thomas

Welcome from Arizona, Thomas. When you do your leather work, how much of it is done on a horse? I would like to see what it looks like, and please post some pictures of any of your work. Pictures usually complete the description of what you made.......... Nubs

Hey Nubs! I have worked with shell cordovan leather and horse but strips in the past. I primarily use Horween or Wickett and Craig leather.

Thomas, I think you misunderstood my my question or I'm misunderstanding your answer. The "Horse" I asked about is a 'Stitching Horse".

I don't have a clue on what Horween, Wickett and Craig leather is other than leather. My experience with working leather is knife scabbards, quivers, knapping pads, hand pads used in knapping, and a couple Holsters stitched on my Horse. Stuff that was either given to me or I went to a local Tandy and got what was about the right size for my needs. .............. Nubs

After seeing these other pieces that are assembled, I'm going to ass ume you use a sewing machine for all stitching and not doing it by hand on a Stitching Horse. ............. Nubs

Nubs,

sorry for my confusion! I have used a stitching horse, but now I have an Adler industrial walking foot sewing machine. It makes life much easier

That is pretty cool stuff, especially the Arizona scene. Reasonably clear sky, Saguaros, Yucca, Prickly Pears, BUT, where's the Cholla??? :sofa:

In your pictures from the above post, #7, the labels you are holding look like they are stitched. Are they or are they burned? .......... Nubs
I need a cholla, good catch! Those are just etching lines on the patches I was holding. I like to include them when I make samples so the customer can visualize the stitching

I also got into lapidary work and silver/gold smithing. I like to cut turquoise, opals, and any cool rocks I found rockhounding. I want to incorporate some desert ironwood into some of my jewelry work. I just need to find more time in the day!
