Bubinga

@Mike1950

I love the idea using the inserted piece as a footing/feet...I have been wanting to carve feet into a platter....

@Nubsnstubs ....5 15/16 for the hole in the Bubinga....I love your Idea also...thanks
Mlyle, the TE went out about 30 minutes ago. I don't think it's large enough to do what I suggested, but if it was, it would probably look really good. I have some more that would be large enough. ............... Jerry (in Tucson)

Maybe even a ring of dark wood like ebony or blackwood surrounding the center wood of your choice.

Or you could do a crazy glue up of lots of different kinds of woods to fill the center hole... thinking of some of the chaotic cutting board designs I’ve seen.

Aged copper, Brass, Bronze. Blue glass, bubbled glass, slate, sliced geode, leather picture, your Mom's picture, redwood lace burl, mallee burl, any burl, a mirror. Leave open as a quoit. Make it a lid, a light shade, a sphere holder, a straw center...I should stop...ya.

I have Paduak and Bubinga . Paduak is 12/4 and Bubinga is 8/4 if I recall correctly . Picked these up at a sale nearby a few years ago .

Definitely should use a contrast wood. I'd go with Mike on quilted maple. 2nd choice - yellowheart, if you want to be bold.
