Wayne, not to push you in a different direction, but as an alternative to go with the earth color tones, but you can find a roasted figured maple (which you have used on a guitar neck) with a darker shade of more chocolate- you would have to make a double to triple stain type of application (guitar staining technique) so you can get that multi-tone color to work for you. I kind of thought of “tiger’s eye” less the yellow, but with more brown or age. You will most likely have to put black first, then wipe off, lightly sand, then put a dark brown, wipe off and lightly sand and the trick is to mix the color to get you that honey orange to amber. You can do this with non roasted maple. I found this as a reference- but, like I said less honey yellow and more orange-brown-amber secondary color to give you that 2 tone color effect that is analogous.

Is that guitar top maple with the same type of application you suggested? That's beautiful!

I can make some, but it probably won’t be until next week.
Thanks Stan, the customer is wanting me to turn 1 piece strikers from an old hickory mantle saved from his family homestead house now. That's cool though.
