CBN wheel catastrophe

Hi, I had an accident with my CBN wheel I got a gouge I was sharpening right at center on my grindr and it was pulled down and jammed in the wheel schroud, ths gouged the wheel. The grinding make a clattering sound. Did I ruin this, is there a fix to this thanks Mike

If thats a diamond wheel, no. Its toast.
If its a rock wheel then you can spend some time and dress it. Just wear a dust mask...

If it is CBN then it is not diamond. CBN ic Cubic-Boron-Nitride and is an extremely hard abrasive used in place of diamonds because of the way it binds to steel. So if it is a CBN wheel then it is toast.

I suggest you ask the vendor who sold out to you if they have any repair options. It's a long shot, but you might get lucky.

Maybe the name is laser-etched into the side of the wheel?

Sources I can think of are Woodturning Wonders, D-Way, and JoHannes Michelsen (HannesTool.com) but I'm sure there are lots more.

So if it's abrasive bonded to steel then it's the steel that is gouged. I would probably just try to remove the raised part of the gouged steel with a file and run it. Looks like it is to one side of the wheel so if you favor the other side when grinding it may work pretty well .

thanks I'll try that. It is not just on one side, the worst of it is on one side kinda in the middle is more even grind. I'll see what happens when I file the gouge. The way tings are now the clatter is the hi spot and would dull the tool. Thanks
