Buddy and I toured the outdoor sportsman expo yesterday. Saw $300,000 boats and $300,000 mobile trailers, both of which caused me to just stand there and shake my head. Mostly hunting guide services and not as many fishing charters. Three taxidermy shops. Interesting, I don't recall a single game call maker display and only heard one bugle. In past years there were several and constant calls and noise. Probably a half dozen or more ATV and eBike manufacturers. Lots of food - in fact we bought some spice mix from a guy. You add one small scoop of this dry spice mix to a can of tomato sauce and it makes this really good salsa; or add one and half scoop to a container of sour cream for a really good dip. He sold it in a pretty big resealable can and we thought that would last us a very long time so we bought one can and split it when we got home. Oh, and if anyone is looking for top grade optics for medium range prices, check out Maven Optics out of Lander, WY. All US made, and I can personally vouch for the quality. Another booth had a big plastic fish with a saddle mounted on it in a photo booth for taking photos of kids - we thought about jumping on it real quick and taking a selfie and then running away but decided against it. Also thought about going to the trout pond and telling them I identify as a 12 year old, and therefore was allowed to fish in the pond - decided against that one too but it would have been interesting to see what they did. Saw one booth with home made wood cutting boards.

Had not been to a sportsman show for a couple decades. went 2 years ago. went to sign a couple petitions- one on wolfs. Of course petitions were not there. we both were amazed at how little was really sportsman related. Lots of foods. 2 call makers- one I knew would be there. The bass boats with 250-300 hp. The prices- yikes- I love to fish but not at that price. My old bass boat 16' 50 hp, I did not care if I scratched it or took it places that that a 20' 250 hp could not even get to. Like driving up creek to get into swan lake and being the only boat on lake every time we went. used to be fishing and hunting was an individual sport, but not anymore. last time I went down gorge the bathtub- I think that is what they call it probably had 100 boats. and probably saw 1000 boats- 100 boats running in circle is sorta not my style- I liked the spots that I fished all day and saw no one. Only competition- the otters- eagles and herons...

This show has lots of wardens, forestry, BLM officers, Deschutes County Sheriffs, Crook County Sheriffs... it's actually a good thing and a great opportunity to get answers to questions. I find them great to talk to.
