Chittum Burl (American Smoketree)

Not at this time. I'll be including this piece in my exhibit of figured woods at IWCS 75th anniversary meeting later in the year and will consider it afterwards.
Actually, I was tagging a member by the handle of Mr chittum. As I recall, his name is Darrel and he lives in or near Lincoln County TN. Along the edge of Smoketree country.

OK, sorry. I don't understand this tagging thing.

No problem. When you wish to get someone's attention, use the @ symbol the start typing the name. When done right (which can be tricky sometimes) the name will show in a color to indicate it is a link. The person named @300LW will be notified they were mentioned in such and such thread.
Note: the highlighting won't show up while you are posting only after you hit "post reply".

Ok, I had to google IWCS! I had no idea!!! But if you had some friends, we would sure like some fresh Blue Bell! Its hot and humid here!!

How does the color of chittum hold up over time?

I'm my (limited) experience, it darkens and deepens to a really nice, deep gold.

I just took the pictures below - inside, but under 5000k LED overhead lights. The call is about 8 years old, and was finished with tung oil. I can't say the blank came from the same chunk, but it likely did and is at least about the same vintage. I sanded 1 side lightly, then wet half that - so you can see any finish deepens it a bit from the (somewhat obnoxious IMO) yellow it is when fresh cut/sanded. This may give you some idea of what to expect.
