This peppermill is for a dear neighbor. They lost a big silver maple from their front yard a few months ago. I managed to get this piece dry enough to turn in time, put on second coat of Waterlox yesterday and knock it down this morning before our Christmas late breakfast...phew!. Lots of challenges with soft areas but I just did what I normally do, get close to last 1/16" or so, stabilize with dewaxed shellac then take final cuts. We'll take it to them later today.

That is really pretty, it looks almost like marble. Tony
 
Really like the shape and very pretty wood. Always nice to have a memento from a favorite tree.
