I have no idea what the wood species is.
Greg, did you ever figure it out? This one looks like common eucalyptus (Eucalyptus robusta) to me and as nearly as I can tell, the end grain does too.

Greg, did you ever figure it out? This one looks like common eucalyptus (Eucalyptus robusta) to me and as nearly as I can tell, the end grain does too.

No I never did figure out what it is. Alls I know is it came from India as parts of packing crates. Is eucalyptus common in india? It doesn't really have a smell to help identify either. But it is beautiful with a blo finish on it.
Next time I work some I'll try and sand the end grain and get you a better pic.

Is eucalyptus common in india?
Oh, yeah. They farm it. Also, a VERY long time ago India and Australia were right next to each other in the super-continents Gonwanda (~500 million years ago) and then Pangea (~300 million years ago) but I don't know if Eucalyptus spp. is that old (probably not)

Some large crosses I have been working on to sell for donations to the church benevolence fund. Absolutely no money goes to me, 100% goes to the benevolence fund.
Different woods and edge treatments. 15" tall. All with one coat of blo and one coat of wax on the flat surfaces.
