Excellent. Yeah, I am aware it grows in Florida, but I hadn't found a reliable source. Granted, I haven't been looking for very long...maybe a couple months. But I'll take Florida Cuban Mahogany for sure. Maybe one day I'll happen across some old growth Cuban Cuban Mahogany, but in the mean time the Florida version will suffice.
Look for guitar supply shops. Expensive like no other supplier but 100% good quality, dry, size as described, well pictured and very good ID.
Do you mean a wood supplier for guitar makers? Luthiers? Or do you mean go to actual guitar shops where they sell whole guitars and/or musical supplies for guitars?

I had posted about this a couple months back because Exotic Wood Zone (a supplier that sells a lot of guitar pieces) supposedly had Cuban mahogany guitar backs as well as Brazilian rosewood pieces. I thought all of it looked suspect, especially considering the sizes they were selling. If i remember correctly, the consensus seemed to be that it was unlikely to be authentic. I've ordered from them many times before, but I've never tried to order any of their ultra rare species, because they just seemed too good to be true. That's the only time I've ever run across Cuban mahogany at any supplier.

I have a few times, but their website is infuriating. You can't navigate their inventory easily at all. They are of course probably the closest major supplier to my home, so I could theoretically just drive there. But it's still a couple hours away, which is tough to fit in with 2 young kids at home. I could also call, but i feel like that isn't really idea for a situation like this.Check with Hearne Hardwoods from time to time. They have guitar quality wood. Chuck

I don't doubt it. Their website shows a lot of great looking pieces. Unfortunately there no way to filter anything, and navigating 25,000 items is nearly impossible without filters. Not to mention there is always a ton of lag when using their website. I'm on it again now, and it's the same as always. Its unbearable. Seems like i would have no choice but to go there in person, but that to have to wait until i get more free time.
Yeah. I have done some „window shopping“ on American sites every now and then and have come to the conclusion that many need to update their sites. Modern standards are much higher than they were ~15 years ago. You should definitely write an email. And mention how annoying it is to use their site. Possibly griffin woods in Colorado has some. They even have Siamese rosewood and bois de rose. Amazing stuff.

That would fit to the ID thread too.I got both boxes a week or so ago but didn't get through inventorying all of it until just now. In Box D, that larger spindle is definitely not Cuban mahogany. Its some kind of fruit wood or possibly eucalyptus based on coloring. Box E was missing the piece you said was Kingwood. It just wasn't in the box at all, and all other pieces were accounted for. That box came wrapped in Saran wrap (presumably by USPS), so it's possible that the box got damaged enough for a piece to fall out
I posted the unknown pieces in Steve Earis's wood ID group on Facebook. Some have gotten traction, others not so much. I guess i should try posting here too. There are far fewer pseudo-experts (guessers) on a forum than on a Facebook group.
Matt, don't worry about it. I was just hoping maybe you'd find the missing piece on a table or something lol there are a lot of cool burls in that box. I'm trying to figure out that one you labeled "lignum vitae?" I'm 99% sure it's not lignum. Its about 60pcf and floats in water. Also, in the other box you had 2 cylinders labeled "kona coffee tree". Do you happen to have any more info on this? Botanical name? My Google searches aren't coming up with much.
