I decided yesterday to try my hand again at a smaller opening closed form, the last one wasn’t running true and I put a hole in the one side. This one had a few hairline cracks when I started but more developed as it got thinner. I didn’t want to chance making the walls any thinner as I was concerned that the whole piece would blow apart. I actually like the cracks, gives it an aged look. I am not sure on the type of wood. IMG_1354.webp

Since you asked for critique ...

I've spent a while looking at the photo and have to say it's a very attractive shape. It makes me want to hold it - which is the sign to me there's something good going on, even if I'm not sure what that something is.

So far all I've come up with is that the combination of the wide (for a closed form) mouth and the widest diameter being below center work well together.

The bead around the base also looks good. Overall impression is of an ancient clay vessel sitting in a hoop, and the material itself adds to that impression with both the cracks and the color.

I wondered about another bead around the rim (in the style of Glenn Lucas's "Irish viking bowl") but my mental picture doesn't look as good as your photo. I think you nailed it.

Thank you for your feedback it is really appreciated. I really struggle to figure out what shape looks good and usually go with what appeals to me, most times I am not sure exactly why I did it.
 
It's a very nice form and I think the vertical cracks work well with it.

The rounded form works well, and any small changes I might make would completely change the vibe of the piece, and that is just a matter of personal preference.
 
If you spray with water inside and out intermittently as you hollow, you’ll get less cracking. Nice form—very egg like.
