Hi @shadetree_1 Do you have any leftover stock suitable for a spindle blank about 20” long?
I’d like to try a piece of the gambel oak and compare it to the common oaks we have here.

Sorry boss, nothing that long right now but I'll be cutting firewood in the next day or so and my firewood is cut 18 to 24 " for this big fireplace, so I'll get you something to work with. Just remind me please in a couple of days, because this old memory leaves a lot to be desired sometimes.

CLOSED this folks, looks like firewood to me.
I recently had a pen made from Gambel oak. I was surprised that there was some noticeable curl/chatoyance. If/when I get a chance, I'll post a pic or vid.

Hi @shadetree_1 I’m still interested in a spindle blank if you can dredge one up, 1.5” x 1.5” x 19”. I’ll take a split log or branch, as long as shipping doesn’t cost an arm and a leg die to its weight. I’m just going to mount it right on the lathe, so it doesn’t need to be pretty, just straight enough to get a spindle out of. No big deal if not possible. Thanks!
I liked the 4th picture down. Looked like I could get a 1/4 sawn sample and a rift sawn sample. Just would lack a flatsawn sample.
