Like them both as well. I admire the leap from tradition on the oak but the maple burl wins for me. Really nice job on the sphere.

Both very cool pieces. The top one is fun, the bottom quite elegant. Have some spalted oak in the shop that may have a new project in it's future seeing that one.

I like both of them. The only thing I might say is you can see the dimple from a forstner bit in the bottom of one of them. I might clean that up but after you fill them with stuff you wouldn't see it anyways.
