Hi,
I realize that most of you are turners, BUT! For you carvers, and your friends that carve here is a new tool. I saw an article a few months ago in one of the carving mags. about this tool, and! And finally broke down and sent for one. So here is sort of a review.
The tool is a new version of a scrop. And I will say,,,,this one is the best design i have seen/used so far. You CAN NOT cut your self with this tool. Well I guees there are exceptions to every rule,,,but you would have to TRY hard to do it. The cutting piece is round, and outside of an adjustable steel cly. You can adjust the cut. You pull the tool and it can be used L.or R. handed. I have been playing with it this a.m.,,,and like what i see so far. It has not done what i was hoping for,,,,BUT,,,it is much better than what I was using!
I talked on the phone with the man who desihned it.he is 75 btw! He said that he has proto-types in the works for a foredom. And he currently sells the hand -held model (which i bought), plus one that fits a side grinder. If you go to his web page,,,he has a video using both types. The sidegrinder one is AWESOME, and I may have to spring for that at Christmas!
I guess to sum it up,,,,,if you use a scrop,,,,this is the one! thanks for your time, ddt
