I am working in a retirement community where half the folks feed the darn things. Seen a 4 point yesterday that looked like a feeder calf, he was so fat. For you folks counting west of the Mississippi, that's a 2x2 that likely weighed 300
That would be called a Forked Horn (antler) out here where sensible descriptions work real well. ............. Jerry (in Tucson) out west

That's funny and sad. One of the worst things people can do to deer - and most wild animals.

Lived here for 35 years. Great neighbors, well except the house from hell across the street. Always transplants from CA. Do not get me wrong I could care less where you are from, it is how you act that matters. The stories are endless. Currently they have a boy probably 10 hand feeding a doe and 2 fawns. I holler and tell him that is not a good idea. His mom pops out and says why not, I say it is illegal and not healthy for the deer. She says something to kid and he goes back to feeding...:unknown:

I live in a "resort" community - they call it that but it's essentially a housing development that abuts a golf course. Anyway, our own HOA Board has posted posters and sent pamphlets and emails all telling people not to feed the deer, it's not healthy for them, etc etc. Then I go over to the driving range at the golf course and watch the guy who runs the pro shop come out and toss a few old apples on the ground to three does who have gathered around, because they know they get fed on a regular basis. Hard to get the tourists to stop feeding them with the employees don't follow the rules. At least he isn't feeding them Oreo cookies and dog kibble.

In Hawaii I had the same problems with tourists feeding birds in the restaurant while other tourists got really passed there were do many birds in our outdoor restaurant. I wanted to scream at the ones feeding them.

A lot of cities have people who feed the pigeons and then they have a massive disgusting guano problem that won't go away.

Wow, I just noticed how many words were auto corrected to different words in my post you replied to. I really need to do 1 of 2 things. Read my post before finishing or stop reading anything @Tclem posts. Either will help tremendously...

Many years ago Spokane paid to get a Peregine falcon nesting pair and put them downtown on The Old WWP building. Bird problem went away and They were fun to watch.

Sensible and this topic. Heheheheh.... :sarcastic:
This is funny. I read quite a bit about hunting and it is amazing how the count differs. Also amazing how the size of the deer differ thruout the country. Deer in Florida are like big dogs and in Ohio small horses.

And in Pennsylvania on I-70 near the state line at West Virginia, a day or two after hunting season opens, they're like Street Pizza's. One dead deer about every 20-30 feet it seemed. Almost as many in Hill Country, Texas, too. ........... Jerry (in Tucson)

We used to catch a mongoose or two just about every time we went out on maneuvers, especially if we were anywhere near cane fields. It was always a good time to sneak one into somebody's tent late at night while they were asleep. The first sergeant was always a prime target. We'd catch the mongoose with the old ammo box supported by a stick with a puddle of C rations underneath. When the time was right, shake that box and get the mongoose all riled up, then quietly unzip the tent and slip it in. Then sit back and watch. We didn't need old white ladies or feathered raptors neither one.
