A set of Gabon ebony featuring a different hand cut pattern, for a client in Texas. Once I deepened the lines enough, the edges of the bars were "sharp", much like an elongated diamond, which created a "non-slip grip"..
"Ebony & Ivory".........got the ebony, ivory coming later!

Thanks Dan. I still have a problem with burning eyes and nose sniffles, especially when checkering. I wear a magnifying visor which puts my face close to the work piece and close to the dust that hand cut checkering creates. But, I tolerate it and take nose blowing and eye wiping breaks!

Can you set up a stand for your shop vac that will allow you to pull the dust off from the side while checkering that ebony? Kind of like the stands folks make for lathe work?

My scroll saw & jigsaw both have small blowers that push the sawdust away from the cut. I wonder if a small fan or vacuum would pull the dust away from your checkering lines? The noise from a vacuum would be a deal killer for me, I would have to find something that was on a remote control and well away from my work surface.
