Needing some Ebony, (any specie, so long as color is consistent and no sapwood), or African Blackwood. I'm making a segmented urn for a friend.

Need it to be at least 4/4 thick, preferably 5" wide or wider and at least 24" long, prefer longer if available.......would like 4 or 5 boards......

Let me know,

Thanks,
Larry

I have abw but spindles. Good luck on that with and make sure you take heart medicine before looking at price. @pinky ebony

I have a question. If the urn is segmented, Why are those dimensions needed? Having said that, I'll check the stash. Like Mike said, ain't gonna be cheap!

Pinky, main reason for the bigger material so is because I get a better yield from the larger pieces. I'm open for suggestion. These urns I make have around 3,000 pieces in each one. Let me know your thoughts.

If you can't find it all in one place, maybe you could do a running tally of what you need and we could all tell you what is available here in our houses. I know, I don't have much, but for a friend's urn I would be willing to part with it.
Mine would likely be 1.5 square and maybe 6 inches long so you will need to find several more folks before you start this urn...

Thank you, let's give it a few days and see what turns up. Hopefully all will work out

Larry, I'm not sure I agree with your premise that bigger material yields better. It seems to me, a great deal of material would be lost to blade kerf. What are the size of your 3000 pieces?

that ends up as waste.Larry, I'm not sure I agree with your premise that bigger material yields better. It seems to me, a great deal of material would be lost to blade kerf. What are the size of your 3000 pieces?
I agree, there is a lot of loss due to blade kerf, I do us my table saw to cut the pieces. Most of the segmented things I make I use pieces that are .250 thick, the width varies from 1.75" down to .250, they vary according to the diameter of the project. With the jig I use, there is about 1.5" at the end if every piece that ends up as waste.....so, the longer the starting length, the better yield.....
