I'm cutting up what FBE I have left right now. Cut some mill blanks already some need to be stabilized let me look for dry and solid.

While dry would be nice, I am 1000 miles away from my lathe until late October, so they can be drying for at least the next six months.
 
Peter I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel here but as @Schroedc says these aren't imperfections they are design opportunities. If you like infill with turquoise etc. these are well suited for that. The mill blanks are dry the block is noted. There are some soft areas in the block most of it in fact but nothing punky. If you stabilize that would be great but if not they will still turn just have to do a lot of sanding and maybe use some shellac before using whatever finish. Maybe some CA in places. Best I can offer at the moment ...

Kevin, Thanks for the pics. My only experience with FBE didn't go well. I turned a 3x3x12 nice looking blank to a cylinder and noticed a brown spot on the end while cutting a tenon. As I cut the tenon, the spot got bigger. The more I cut, the bigger it got and the end result was that the entire blank was beyond saving. So, I'm a bit shell-shocked and inclined to hold out for better blanks you'll have in the future. I am tempted by the 12x7.75x3.5 piece. It looks like I cut cut around the checks in that piece to get some usable 6" mills. What would that piece cost me?
 
I'd rather you wait also if you've already had a bad experience. I think they'd be fine for an experienced turner but it's not worth the risk. Sorry but my stock is just depleted right now. I'll keep you in mind when I get some though.

I'd be happy with enough to do 2 mills, even happier for 4 mills and could easily go for 6 mills if the blanks were really good. I've been doing 6" mills, but have kits for 8" mills that I cut to size.

Sorry Pete I blew out my knee and have been distracted. I just answered your PM. I'm going tof hobble oit to the shop in a little while because I am already sick of sitting up in the bed. I'll get back with you later today, thanks for your patience.
