So...I have this snakewood log in my personal stash. It came from a guy who imported a bunch of them years ago, so it's had decades of sitting in storage to dry. I have cut little pieces of it here and there for stands and small items. But mostly I just visit the thing and scratch my head over how to cut it right (tricky stuff, snakewood - cracks like crazy, doesn't like heat, read online some about it).

I have concluded that I'm not the guy for this stuff - too much like a casino, with the dollar value at stake over whether I use CA right, cut it right, etc. So here it is for trade.

I believe it's good but not great material - old and dry is a plus. If you have interest, show me what you want to trade. I am always a sucker for unusual material and generally will go for "well, that's different" over value. My wish list right now includes pretty much any of the rosewoods or a few samples of the Florida black ironwood that is in all the wood density charts but nowhere in real life...

That is an awesome "head scratching" chunk of lumber. I sure would like to visit ,and wonder what to do with it, but I do not have trade material that you are looking for. Still an awesome and interesting piece.
Dave

I do have some small pieces of dalbergia negra, Brazilian rosewood....

I'm interested, but i have to deal with a frozen pipe in the cellar. Flooded the garage. My wood stash is safe. But man...this is a pita....
If colin has what you like go for it.
If not gimme a day to look at my stuff to trade.

ripjack, hope things warm up and get dry soon. Had a frozen pipe myself this week - got it thawed w no damage, but spent the weekend repairing walls...

Colin, I am always up for Brazilian rosewood - post what you'd trade, and we'll figure it out.

I'll see how much I have tomorrow morning.

Sure. Post what you want to trade, and let's figure it out! The ebonies in particular are interesting to me.

@bhatleberg - Finally got into my stash, not as much Brazillian Rosewood left as I'd thought. See what other folks have, want you to get the best of this!

That is some great material. Let's stick to the black and white ebony - seems there is enough that you have options. Then, the trouble is balancing out so we're both happy.

How about you pm me your contact info. I will ship the snakewood to you. Once you have and get a sense for what feels fair, you send me whatever amount of b&w feels in balance.

Does this work?

Just to update...we have an agreement in concept. I have shipped the snakewood log and some nice manzanita casting material to Bubby. He is going to send me some quantity of not fully dried black and white ebony. Since this log is a crapshoot, he is going to cut first and then send. If the log is a dud, less ebony. If great, he'll balance out w some other material we've discussed.
