I need someone to stabilize a piece of sweet gum for me. I can pay or trade some wood. I need to double check the size of the wood.
Thanks,
Jay

I haven't had enough 'practice' doing my stabilizing to offer to do anyone else's at this time. But I'm sure this friendly 'BUMP' will help you with someone nearby....I hope?!?!?!?

Scott (got a photo of the chunk) B

You can ask lathemaster or bangleguy. Both of them have done some stabilizing for me, and my stuff came back done right.

Thanks for moving this. I looked for the right place to post this but I never saw this area before.

Not to highjack to badly.....how did you do this notification thingie?

Back to the normally scheduled program....I knew you'd find someone fast!

I think it's a work in progress...
Just use the @ symbol and the members name. @SDB777 and their name pops up in a pop up bubble, click that and it links them to the posts so they get a notification.
Kinda like facebook. However I'm not sure Kevin has it worked out yet.
Did you get one for this post? or was it just a notification that I posted in here?

I didn't get anything....

rats.

well...that's what I had thought. That's also why I sent out the PM Conversation to you guys...

At that size you might need to go 'pro' for complete penetration? And even then, they are going to have a really fun time with they fancy toys and super pressure vessels... I have a 5 gallon vessel, and the size of your blank would be too big for it.

Think I've seen a lot of folks at the knife forums using a company called K&G....

Scott (what you gonna make) B

The pro stabilization places charge by the outgoing weight (i.e. the weight of the wood you sent after stabilization). So, if you want to go that route, rough turn the piece to remove as much weight as possible before sending it in. You'd also get better penetration that way.

+1 to what Dan said. Cut the extra 3" off. 9x12 will only yield a 9" bowl. The other 3" will land on the floor. No use paying to ship waste 2 ways plus having waste stabilized...

He guys,
A few days ago I've seen a video posted on the CSUSA website, in fact advertising some stabilizing TMI products. In one of these videos, they show how to stabilize a rough turned bowl.
