Jerry you already know what they all are. I've had that mallee block for about 3 maybe 4 years - it started out real big been trimming off pieces for barter and here is what's left bone dry. This block of FBE is nearly 1 3/8" thick so by the time rip slice the back off that little bark will be gone and you should have nothing but all primo red.

The chinaberry blank is from @NYWoodturner stabilized by me - can't wait to see how that turns out - it really sucked up the juice I'm going to stab a lot more of that.

I've been cutting segments all afternoon :saw: , and thinking of these woods the whole time, foresee some really nice segmented pens coming soon :good2:

@Kevin In the second to last picture (framing square) which one is the chinaberry? Second?

It's the one between the ABW and the Amboyna - it's touching the 6" mark. Picture doesn't do justice.

Jerry I had a busy day but ran across a really nice piece of holly. Much of it is very white and of course holly bleaches about as good or better than any other species.

Threw an interesting half sumac branch up there in case you can use soemthing like that.

I don't have much really light colored wood. I have almost two pallets of curly and quilted maple left but for segmented you cant really see curl or quilt right.

that holly looks great , haven't had any of that for a while :good2:, and I can resaw & dry out the sumac too
as for lighter colored woods, don't fret about that, I have a bunch .......... Quilted Maple, Maple Burl, Black Locust Burl, Box Elder Burl, Black Ash Burl, etc etc
(so much that I've been trying to reduce stock by dyeing & double dyeing)
I could actually use more of the darker & colored woods (like the reds of the Amboyna's & yellows of the Chittum, etc)
You've been doing an excellent job selecting the species you have, don't stress yourself out too much,
else you're gonna make it hard for me to pick & choose woods for the blanks trying to keep on par with you :saw:

Sorry for the lag Jerry. I can get these in the box if they look good. You probably don't like killer coco but . . .

The box will have room for some surprise. My surprises aren't junk or scrap up off the floor. :nodice:

and I just happen to be very short on Cocobolo and DIW, almost to the point I was gonna message my "favorites" that I usually get from ....... perfect timing :good2: :good2:
The only other thing I need from you, taking some time to decide what series kits I'll be making the blanks for, that's almost as important as the woods
as always ...... Very Happy with what I'm seeing, and I expected no less :hi3:

@Kevin , the horse I had to trade ran off, so I substituted these segmented pens blanks in his place :hi:

If you're happy with these, they'll go out in mail 1st thing tomorrow morning, and will complete my part of the trade (let's do it again real soon!)
all 3 made for the standard Jr Gent II, Jr Statesman, or Jr Majestic series pen kits, will include instructions for drilling & turning in the box when shipped.
Had second thoughts, decided it was better for your 1st time doing these that I didn't include any metal segments .......
If there's any of these you don't particularly like, don't hesitate to speak up

#1. Black Locust Burl, Thuya Burl, Peacock Blue dyed Maple Burl, w- blue/white/blue & red/white/red segments
#2. Tineo, Turquoise Acrylic, Snakewood, w- red/white/red & blue/white/blue segments
#3. Thuya Burl, Turquoise Acrylic, African Blackwood, w- yellow/black, orange/black, & yellow segments

Lemme know what you think

They look great Jerry, thanks for the trade.

Jerry - You have some serious skills my friend. You should name your line "Very Jerry" and just produce segmented blanks.
Not to take anything away from your pen making, but your blanks are reaaaaalllly hard to beat.

Id be game for some of the upcoming pen blanks.
When ready, message me and we'll talk turkey :haggle:
