@Tony I'm starting the thread now. I started a Mesquite snare drum awhile back and the reason I was using Mesquite is because of its stability. I want to build reinforcement rings into it. I cut pieces and started bending them with a propane torch in a piece of pipe. I am getting the hang of it but have broken all my strips. This is the reason that Tony is in a great position to get cash or trade in spades. I will post some possible trade ideas tomorrow.

I'm looking for a fairly clear piece 1" thick x 2 or more" wide by 48" long. I know Tony builds cutting boards and will try to find some boards he might like.

Les, I will look and see what I have here and post it coming up. I'm not sure I'll be able to this week, a little hectic but will as soon as I get a chance. Tony

I guess you're discovering the poor bending properties of mesquite lol. Hats off to you, if you're successful, it's a hard wood but has a short fiber/grain...

Sorry it took so long @Tony, Here are 10 pieces between 13" and 17" long, all about 3" wide 1" thick. I have to cut some down to make them fit in the box but I may be able to fit a couple more. I will dig around a bit more to see if I can come up with some longer but this is what I found first. Thanks

Les, I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to you. In 3 weeks the only time I've been in my shop was to drop off the clamps my wife gave me for Christmas. I will look this weekend and come up with some for you. Tony

@Blueglass

Les, sorry it took me so long to do this. Here's what I've got on hand now. If none of this works, I have more, I just have to have time to go out to get it.

Top piece is 1" x 3-1/2" x 47-1/2"
2nd is 1" x 5-1/2" x 40"
3rd is 13/16" 4" (clear) x 47-1/2"
Last is 1"x 6" say x 36"

After doing further measurements and some math... I think piece number 2 would work pretty well.

In looking at it close it's a little bowed. I know you're going to bend it, will that be a problem?

Will not be a problem. I will true it up and then cut strips around 1/8" off it. Making reinforcement rings for the drum I made from your Mesquite. I came within 3/8" and 1" of bending them the whole circumference and then snapped them. I will get this done, ha ha. It will not be a question of the week project. Will be making most of the hardware for this one too.

I like number one as well but I'm afraid I would waste too much cutting around sapwood. I really like the sapwood and bug tracks and all that. I really showcased it on this shell. Praying I am gentle enough with it while it is still fragile.

Holy crap thanks @Tony . I just bent the first 2 re'rings in no time flat with no breaks. 2 more because I'm doing 2 layers and I will have accomplished my goal on this one. Hoping, wishing, praying I can finish this one in one piece and show pics. I'm waiting until I get the lathe to make hardware for this one. Thanks again.

Good deal Les, I'm glad it's working out! Can't wait to see some pics of it! Tony

I'm waiting to post pics because it seems whenever I post progress pics I end up breaking the shell and this one has been turned so thin I'm afraid to take the band clamps off until I get the re-rings glued in.
