Okay since no one else is asking I see the link that Johnathan posted and the price is $136.84.
Where are you getting it for $99 or did I miss something here?

The order process is screwy, that's one of the downsides. It's $99 gallon though not $137. You send the email they invoice you.

I have been using Ultra Seal for well over a year now - Probably been through 10 gallons. I keep it in the small fridge in my shop... (That was my justification for buying it :ok:.) Once I run a batch in the chamber I leave it in the chamber. Thats year round. I don't have an A/C in the shop and summer time it gets to the 80s. Right now it stays at 70 with the pellet stove. I've never had an issue with whats in the chamber or with shipping. I keep the unused in the fridge as a precaution because I did have another brand go off and become a LFRB sized paper weight. In retrospect I should have chucked that baby up and turned it :sarcastic:
I have always been very pleased with the Ultra Seal and don't mind putting my name on a product that has been stabilized with it.

Is there room for beer in that fridge... ? Or is it beer juice ?

Tom here's what's in the box . . . .

The eyes in the chittum are killer. It's too bad you don't like stabilized curly koa because this block would have fallen in there - this pic can't begin to capture the curl and depth it is insane. It has little micro-curls within the curls you can see in the pic . . .

:whatever:

I was joking about koa, wood was just too soft. Like chitum burl I have, three blocks stabilized and still too soft to use on handle. Hope yours is hard.

Just for education purposes Tom, why do you insist on extreme hardness for scales, and what is your test to determine if something is hard enough?

Kevin, i slightly press finger nail into wood. And make a few scratches. It doesn't have to be lignum vitae hard, but this was under 1000 janka.

Why so hard though? I have knives that the scales are really dented up because they are not so hard - doesn't bother me at all. You just don't want your knives to be easily dented is that it? If so I can understand that but it doesn't bother me. I use my stuff though. I already have scratched and dings on the knife I just got from you and right now it is under a layer of fine ERC dust lol.

Well, you did spark my interest in the Cuban mahagony, never even heard of it so I did some research about it. Very interesting. Thx

Tom would you like me to saw the chittum in half and see if the resin penetrated well? Scott has recently run some wood (can't remember the species) through the vat a second time after baking and said the wood got even harder at least on the surface. I could twice bake your chittum and send it tomorrow. Otherwise I'll send along today.

I assume you want the scales oriented to see the eyes on the sides and rays on top and bottom. Do you want me to cut the block in half before going back in the vat or cut into quarters? Quarters will probably give more penetration but have more waste once cleaned up. Here are the pre-second go-around sizes.
